PRYC Sailing Camp

Sailing Camps Level 1 & 2

Sailing camps for children aged 8 to 15. All  camps run for 5 days from 9am to 3pm and are held Nor’Banks in Duck and at the North Marina in Southern Shores. Campers are required to know how to swim and come prepared each day to camp to learn and have fun on the water.  Once the camper has been signed up we will forward all the necessary paperwork to be filled out prior to camp.  We offer 2 sailing camp levels:

Level 1 – This camp is a great camp for beginning sailors, those with no or some experience. We have a range of boats for children of different ages. If you took camp with us last year and have not sailed much since, this camp is for you.

Level 2 – This camp is for sailors who have some good sailing experience, either on their own or through camps with us in the past. The goal of this camp is for students to complete the “Little Red Book” from US Sailing and to be able to sail confidently on their own.

Typical Camp Day

This schedule is our typical plan, but the ever-changing Outer Banks weather can create updates along the way. Our first goal is to keep the campers safe and having fun while spending as much time on the water as possible. Weather depending, we definitely shift schedules around to maximize our time on the water. Parents are welcome to come and watch these sessions at any time. We have a comfortable area for families to sit and watch the kids sail.

Students should plan to bring lunch and a snack. We will provide cold water and/or Gatorade on site.  All snacks are peanut free, but let us know if there are any other allergy concerns. We will offer a cooler or refrigerator for storage of lunches and/or drinks. On our last day of camp we typically have a ‘fun’ awards ceremony with drinks and snacks for the kids.

Our students safety and comfort is our primary concern.  We require that all kids know how to swim.  We ask that each student comes prepared with a hat, sunscreen (already applied as well as extra for re-application), sun shirts, water shoes and a water bottle. We will provide water and/or Gatorade for our students.    We are happy to talk to parents about the program at anytime and help answer any questions. Upon registration, students and parents receive a detailed packet of forms, which will go over all the details.
